Please answer yes or no and provide comments to the following question:

Do you support designating one or more of Cincinnati Public Schools’ high schools to offer as part of the school(s) curriculum a Public Safety Academy?

Yes

I support the need for diversifying the Fire and Police Divisions and believe it is critical to do so. I have supported the efforts that CPS has made and have publicly and personally persisted in pushing the full implementation of this particular workforce goal.
However, I believe and have stated publicly in the Board Student Achievement Committee for two years.....
THAT THE TERM PUBLIC SAFETY ACADEMY WAS COINED BY PEOPLE THAT DID NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT THE STATE ALLOWS AND WHAT IS THE MOST EFFICIENT AND EXPEDITIOUS STRATEGY TO ACHIEVE THIS GOAL IN AN EDUCATIONALLY SOUND MANNER THAT PRODUCES REAL WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT.

RATHER,  THE TERMINOLOGY SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABOUT CAREER CREDENTIALING. THAT COULD AND SHOULD OCCUR AT ANY NUMBER OF OUR HIGH SCHOOLS.
USING THAT STRATEGY FOR BOTH THE FIRE FIGHTERS AND POLICE COULD BE BETTER SERVED MORE WIDELY AND TO VARIED DEGREES BETWEEN FIRE , EMT AND POLICE.
THE POLICE MUCH LESS SO THAN FIREFIGHTERS OR EMT DEVELOMENT BECAUSE CAREER CREDENTIALING AND ADVANCEMENT CAN OCCUR EARLIER FOR FIRE FIGHTING AND EMT THAN POLICE CREDENTIALING....BY STATE LAW AND OHIO DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, POLICE CREDENTIALING IS LIMITED BY AGE AND PROGRAM. AS FOR FIREFIGHTING AND EMT WE LAG WAY BEHIND THE SUBURBS.
SO IT WOULD NOT BE AN ACADEMY IN ONE PLACE FOR POLICE AND FIRE BUT RATHER AN ACROSS DISTRICT EFFORT MINIMALLY FOR POLICE AND VERY MUSCULARLY FOR FIREFIGHTING AND EMT.  I SUPPORT FURTHER INVESTMENT AT WEST HIGH BUT NOT LIMITING TO THAT ONE SCHOOL.

Would you vote for funding to establish and maintain the Public Safety Academy in Cincinnati Public Schools?

Yes

However, again in a manner that would be legal and in keeping with the current Ohio law, ODE Credentialing and with greater emphasis on firefighting and EMT than on police. Keep in mind also that the City, to my knowledge, has contributed zero dollars toward this effort

Will you agree to permit at least one CAFA and at least one Sentinels representative to be enduring advisers of the Public Safety Academy?

Yes

In an advisory capacity of course. However, by law they would have to meet the career education certification for our program and students to receive credit. Would the City or the unions pay for their service or grant paid release for their services. I will also say that the curriculum is and will be developed and adopted by the school district and not by the City.
All of these issues has been described multiple times. We can make great progress, even historic progress if we are all the same page and use the the same language.

Do you support the reconvening of the 2018 Work group for the creation of the Public Safety Academy?  Will you personally attend the essential information session that will be given by ODE and ODPS that will provide the details for the creation of the Public Safety Academy?

Yes

Under the circumstances that I have described above. I will insist on my attendance and presence. I believe in this program, I am the leading board member on career and workforce development and frankly believe that politics in both 2017 and 2018 has delayed and confused the District's progress.
